SCP Diversity Travel Scholarship

​

The objective of the Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee of the Society for Consumer Psychology is to enhance understanding of culture and ethnicity by 1) increasing ethnic minority participation in the society and 2) fostering communication, coordination, and interaction among all Society members with an interest in ethnic minority research. The committee seeks to play a key role in shaping policies of the Society involving the professional development of ethnic minority members and the inclusion of ethnic minority research.

Travel Scholarship Objective:
To support the goals of the Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee by increasing active participation and fostering future leadership in SCP among diverse doctoral student groups that are underrepresented in consumer psychology.

Applicant Requirements:
Applicants must be from one of the following populations: African American, Hispanic American, or Native American, or from a population outside the U.S. that is underrepresented in their country and in consumer psychology.

Applicants must be currently accepted or enrolled in a doctoral program.

  2. Statement of need (please respond to the following question; percentage should total 100%).

    NOTE: This statement should be signed by a representative or advisor from your doctoral granting institution.

    If you do not receive a travel scholarship, how will you fund travel to the conference:

  3. Current C.V.

  4. Abstract for a submitted conference presentation (special session, competitive paper, poster, etc.), indicating:

    1. whether the paper has been accepted for presentation at the 2020 SCP conference; and

    2. whether the applicant (vs. a co-author) is planning to present.

 

Deadline:
All materials must be received before midnight (EST) on Friday, December 20, 2019.

Award:
Award will be in the form of a travel reimbursement for attending the 2020 SCP Conference. This travel scholarship will reimburse uncovered reasonable travel (e.g., economy class flight, standard conference hotel room for the duration of the conference, and registration reimbursement).

​

Evaluation Criteria:
The evaluation of applicants will be conducted by a review panel comprised of active members in the Society. The Committee will consider financial need, quality of the submission to the conference, whether the applicant’s work has been accepted for presentation, whether the author plans to present the work, and the applicant’s CV.
